INVESTOR RELATIONS

Scanner-Rhodes Productions Director Dean Fisher, alongside Urban Way Productions Ray Panthaki has recently set up a investment company Canary Wharf Films, which will to produce 6 to 8 £1 million pound high performing genre films over the next 3 years. FILM INVESTMENT OVERVIEW:

With the current uncertainty in the financial market place, film can offers a healthy return and become a viable investment opportunity. With government incentives schemes such as the EIS (Enterprise investment scheme) the risk of investment in film has been hugely decreased. Offsetting income and capital gains tax can make the EIS an attractive proposition. Running alongside the EIS, is  the UK tax credit scheme. Combined they can decrease the cost of a £1.00 investment to as little as £0.60. We work alongside highly reputable financial advisors to ensure that we are at the cutting edge for offering the latest incentives and opportunities to potential partners.

Here is a couple of links to ratify the commercial success of City Rats from Robert Graham of Graham Associates who invested and administrated the EIS on the film:

Any investment in film requires a calculated risk. Key things to look out for is the strength of the package put together by the producer and their ability to deliver a high end product. You also have to consider the, strength of genre, track record of personnel involved, marketable cast and size of budget compared to market expectations. It's also important to be aware that  Investment in a film project can tie up the investors money for a length of time. There are three stages to investment in film:

Short term - Tax Incentives, through current government schemes

Mid Term - Investment recouped through international license sales

Long Term - Royalty payments, capital gains tax relief

Our investors have the opportunity to be actively involved in the making of the film, including set visits and premiere invites and hospitality packages. We ensure that our investors or representatives are consulted in our choice of distributor and sales agent. We pride ourselves on tightly managed productions. Our projects are always structured with placing the majority of the spend on the screen (known as below the line) and not on peoples inflated wages (above the line). Reporting is an essential part of investor confidence in a production. We receive reports quarterly from distributors and sales. This information is immediately passed onto our investors or investors representatives.

The recent revolution in digital technology offers a more efficient and affordable means of feature production. Through our experience of shooting 35mm on a limited budget - one feature on High Definition Video and one on Super 16mm film - we have come to understand the discipline required to obtain the most from every penny. A tightly managed Digital 4K (Ultra High Definition) production can emulate the production values of a standard 35mm budget of around £5 million.  Our aim is also to tap into the 3D phenomenon, which is going to revolutionize our theatres over the next decade. Adding sequences that lend themselves brilliantly to the immersive qualities of 3D, bringing the viewer into the thick of the action, opening up the film to a completely new cinema experience.

We are looking to build relationships with brokers, finance arrangers and fund managers. If you would like to arrange a meeting to discuss our opportunities further, please contact dean@scanner-rhodes.co.uk.

We have put together a number film information packs for the films in our current slate. They include more information on the films personnel, intended market and cast attached. To request a pack for either Stingers, Eddie's Dead or The Man Inside. Please email dean@scanner-rhodes.co.uk.
