NOTHING LIKE THIS
‘Nothing Like This’ is an original, highly commercial and stylistic Woody Allen-esque Romantic Comedy written and to be Directed by Amit Gupta. Best described as ‘500 Days of Summer’ meets ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona Nothing Like This’ is a universally appealing movie that will entertain audiences worldwide and leave a mark on everyone and anyone, who has ever fallen in, or out, of love.
The story deals with the issues of celebrity and the baggage which comes with it. Film centres on Jay Veer, an ex-soap star who is now most infamous for appearing on a viral sex tape with his ex-girlfriend Claudia. She has now become the new Hollywood Kim Kardashian and Jay is left with the reputation of being the Asian Persuasion and Mr Six Hours. All the girls now want him for his bedroom skills and he just wants to find someone who will love him for who he is and not what he has done.
When his keys accidently falls down a drain, Jay meets Hannah, an American who doesn’t like celebrities or the internet and of course knows nothing of Jay’s fame. They quickly fall in love but there are elements constantly making Jay aware of his past. He tries to shield her away from the past but as their love grows Jay becomes more and more scared of telling Hannah the truth in fear of losing her. Eventually the truth comes out and Jay has to find a way of winning back her heart and respect.
Nothing Like This’ will be Canary Wharf Films first landmark feature and was carefully selected to meet the chief criteria needed for success in independent film today: a great story, named cast and a sensible budget.
It also brings together some of the most respected names in the industry today! Writer and Director Amit Gupta is a rising star of the UK filmmaking scene, his first feature RESISTANCE, was released to much critical acclaim and was nominated for a Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Award for Best First Feature Film as well as for three Bafta Cymru Awards, winning one for Best Actress for Andrea Riseborough who swiftly went onto work with Tom Cruise in the forthcoming blockbuster Oblivion. Amit’s latest feature Jadoo will be released Nationwide on the 6th September. The hilarious Comedy is creating a huge buzz in the industry having been selected for 15 festivals to date including the highly respected Berlin International Film Festival.
Producers Dean Fisher and Ray Panthaki’s first collaboration was the hugely successful ‘City Rats’, which was released theatrically in April 2009. The Film was shot on a modest budget of £145,000 and to date has grossed over £3 million! City Rats also made its way to number 3 in the UK DVD chart just behind Hollywood blockbusters ‘Jarhead’ and ‘Walk the Line’ – proving that, with the right story, right team and boundless dedication our sensible budgeted films can compete with the best.
Amit, Ray and Dean’s extensive contacts will prove priceless in obtaining a second to none cast and crew to ensure that ‘Nothing Like This’ becomes the breakout hit it deserves to be.
