“CITY RATS” OPENS AT 2009 SLAMDANCE FILM FESTIVAL WITH AN INTERNATIONAL BANG

Scanner-Rhodes Productions Ltd & Face Films sell first joint venture “City Rats” to Revolver Entertainment for UK Distribution

(London—January 14, 2009) Facefilms & Scanner-Rhodes Productions Ltd are happy to announce the sale of their first joint feature film “City Rats” to Revolver Entertainment for a multi-platform UK release. “City Rats” is Facefilms’ first feature length film, and Scanner-Rhodes’ second feature film following up their 2007 release “Night Junkies.”

“City Rats,” directed by Steve M. Kelly (“Doctors”), one of UK’s leading drama directors, and written by Simon Fantauzzo cleverly presents the story of 8 individuals looking to transcend the banality of their lives; seeking comfort and answers from others. Coming together by sheer chance, they spark in one another the desire to do better, to stop their downfall for a moment in order to consider another future for themselves. The film’s stars Danny Dyer (“Severence”), Tamer Hassan (“Eastern Promises”), MyAnna Buring (“Lesbian Vampire Killers”), Ray Panthaki (“28 Days Later”), Susan Lynch (“Elizabeth: the Golden Age”), Kenny Doughty (“Elizabeth”), James Lance (“Marie Antoinette”), and Nastasha Williams (“Eastenders”), bring to life characters that are rich and substantial, interwoven in a sad tapestry.

“Steve’s film is the latest example of how Revolver is constantly exposing new and innovative filmmakers by delivering them to a mass audience through new and unique distribution and marketing,” says Revolver’s Justin Marciano.

“City Rats” continues Revolver’s tradition of innovative and risk taking releases. The film will have a visible, attention-grabbing yet light-footed release which will serve both theatrical and DVD audiences simultaneously. The success of the multi-platform release of “Mum & Dad” indicates that audiences are happy to embrace new release patterns and appreciate the choice that comes with it.  Revolver is a great supporter of British film and is delighted to work with both the established and up and coming talent connected to “City Rats.”

States Dean Fisher of Scanner-Rhodes, “We are delighted to be working with Revolver on the UK release of “City Rats.” It’s great to tie this deal up in time for the films world premiere at Slamdance 2009.”

“We feel that Revolver takes an exciting and proactive approach to marketing and releasing their films, high quality and intelligent acquisitions.  Revolver knows what sells in the UK and how to sell it.  Because of this, we feel that “City Rats” will be in safe hands,” elaborates Facefilms’ William Borthwick.

The sale was negotiated for Revolver Entertainment by Joel Kennedy and Nick Savva, and for Scanner-Rhodes Productions Ltd by Dean Fisher and Facefilms by William Borthwick. Ildi Toth of Altadena Films is handling worldwide sales.

Revolver Entertainment

Revolver Entertainment is one of the UK & Eire’s leading ‘All Rights’ distribution companies, shaking up the industry with a unique approach to managing its enviable and edgy slate of Film and DVD releases. Handling both the large scale and smaller films with equal care and attention, 2008 was their most successful year to date, with up to 15 theatrical releases and over 50 home entertainment titles. Specialists in delivering maximum media coverage and awareness via multi-platforms, with Revolver Books and 357 Records also operating under the Revolver umbrella, they are an aggressive all rights brand marketing entity. The launch of Revolver USA in 2007 expanded this brand across the Atlantic, commencing with the release of home entertainment titles throughout the country.

Revolver is a fully integrated distribution machine, with in-house Theatrical and Home Entertainment Sales, and a large Publicity Team handling all their titles. Their Marketing teams continue to win awards for creativity, originality and guerrilla marketing, with the “Zombie Walk” making International News with hundreds of Zombies parading through London’s Leicester Square to break a world record. Their pioneering spirit is highlighted with their release of the first ever live action Digital 3D movie earlier in the year, and tailed at the end with the first ever entirely eco-friendly film release, indicating our dedication to breaking new ground within the industry. The addition of a key award to Revolver’s stable with an Oscar win, plus a BAFTA nomination for a film also co-produced by Revolver, both for feature documentaries, indicates their expertise in selecting and successfully releasing high profile and high quality films.
